However, the season also presents challenges in maintaining your best look and feel amidst the heat.

Fear not, we’ve compiled essential tips for glowing skin, hydrated hair, and enduring energy, plus must-have summer beauty products and DIY suggestions you won’t want to miss!

1. Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

It cannot be overstated—hydration is crucial. You’ve likely heard this repeatedly, but are you practicing it? Proper hydration is vital year-round, but it's especially critical in summer when the risk of dehydration increases due to higher temperatures.

Your body requires significant amounts of water to remain healthy. Radiant summer skin is unachievable without adequate hydration! Drinking water maintains healthy, hydrated skin, supports proper bodily functions, keeps your metabolism active, and replenishes fluids lost through sweat, which helps regulate your body temperature.1

If plain water bores you, try creating homemade water infusions. They’re a tasty way to increase your hydration and add some extra nutrients. Explore Water for the Win: Benefits of Water, Plus 5 Water Infusions to Try for some innovative ideas!

2. Simplify Your Summer Makeup

Embrace the summer spirit by streamlining your beauty regimen. There’s nothing appealing about makeup that melts off your face or settles into fine lines. This often happens when you use winter products in summer heat.

Opt for a lighter foundation, such as a serum foundation with sunscreen or a lightweight mineral foundation, to avoid caking. Alternatively, consider using just a bronzer.

Select summer beauty essentials that withstand the heat. For instance, replace lipstick with all-natural tinted lip balms and prefer gel shadow sticks over powdered versions.

Shift your focus from concealing to nurturing healthier skin this summer. Choose beauty products containing natural ingredients and free from harmful chemicals. Continue reading for more advice on nurturing your skin and enhancing natural radiance.

3. Amp Up Your Summer Skincare

Summer skincare should focus on protection, moisturization, and ample antioxidants to combat free radical damage from UVB sunlight exposure.2 Wear sunscreen and moisturize, but don’t stop there! Consider lowering your shower temperature by 10 to 15 degrees to reduce skin dryness, particularly after sun exposure, and apply lotion immediately afterward to lock in moisture.

Choose sunscreens with at least SPF 30, which blocks 97% of UVB rays.3 Although no sunscreen can block UVB rays completely, reapplying frequently as directed can enhance protection.

Combine moisture and SPF protection by using a body lotion and sunscreen combo. Keep an after-sun kit that includes aloe spray and soothing aloe lotion handy for cooling relief if you overdo the sun exposure.

While sunscreen is essential for UV protection, it can inhibit vitamin D synthesis. Consider taking vitamin D supplements during summer and learn about its benefits and sources in Say Hello to the Sunshine Vitamin: Top Foods High in Vitamin D.

Regularly exfoliate to maintain smooth skin and load up on antioxidants to protect from photo-aging and other skin issues due to solar rays.2 Learn more about antioxidant-rich foods and supplements in the upcoming sections.

4. Try Protective Summer Hair Essentials

For summer hair, it’s often best to embrace natural textures and avoid products that may become tacky or accumulate residue in humid conditions. Opt for natural, moisturized styles and try new updos or relaxed styles to stay cool. Wear a hat for extended outdoor periods to protect your hair from the sun.

To manage flyaways in humid weather, use a color-protecting shampoo and conditioner. These products provide extra moisture and protection, beneficial even if you don’t color your hair. For deep conditioning and frizz control, use a moisturizing coconut oil conditioner.

Before a sun-filled day, apply a leave-in conditioner to shield your hair. Create your own by mixing 3/4 cup aloe juice, 1 teaspoon of avocado oil, and 1 cup of coconut water in a spray bottle. Stay tuned for more summer DIY beauty tips!

5. Enjoy Seasonal Foods for Summer Beauty

Seasonal foods offer peak nutrition, abundant antioxidants, and phytochemicals for a healthy body and radiant skin, not to mention their flavor! Take advantage of the diverse array of fresh, whole foods available. Your diet reflects on your skin, making summer an ideal time to transition to a diet rich in real foods.

With the vast selection available, you’ll never grow bored. Berries are rich in antioxidant flavonoids, while fresh greens, peppers, tomatoes, and root vegetables provide antioxidant carotenoids for eye and skin health, as well as overall cellular protection.5

Make smoothies with fresh fruits and ice to stay cool, and incorporate seasonal produce into every meal for optimal beauty nutrition from within.

6. Supplements for Summer Beauty & Health

Whether you aim to prepare your body for the beach, enhance your beauty nutrition, or fill dietary gaps, these five supplements are excellent for summer health.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin Supplements
These antioxidant carotenoids protect eyes from harmful blue light and support skin health by guarding against free radical damage.6,7

Astaxanthin Supplements
Astaxanthin is a highly potent antioxidant carotenoid, supporting healthy vision, brain, heart, and skin. It has also been shown to improve signs of aging, such as crow's feet, skin elasticity, and hydration.8,9

Adaptogenic Schisandra
Schisandra berry, known for its adaptogenic properties, aids the body's stress response and may protect skin from UVB-induced oxidative damage and collagen degradation.10,11,12

Plant-based Protein Powder
Protein is essential for muscle building, and maintaining healthy hair, skin, and nails. It helps sustain energy, manage weight, and promote tissue repair.13,14 Blend protein powder into a smoothie for a nutritious summer treat. Opt for a plant-based option with a complete amino acid profile for maximum benefits.

Chromium Picolinate
For energy support during your summer fitness routine, consider chromium picolinate. This mineral aids in metabolizing carbohydrates and lipids, contributing to weight management and cardiovascular health.15

7. Try Summer DIY Beauty Treats

Indulge your skin with DIY face masks, bath bombs, and moisturizers. These homemade options allow you to control the ingredients and are enjoyable to make. Whether it's fun surprise fizzies or luxurious, herb- and essential oil-infused bath bombs that soothe your senses and pamper your skin, our easy DIY bath bomb and bath fizzies recipe offers many variations, making it ideal for beginners and kids.

Bath bombs are not only a delightful self-indulgence but also an excellent gift option. Furthermore, they are simple to make, so there's no need to spend up to $9 on a single store-bought bath bomb when you can create your own.

Wait, back up… What is a bath bomb, anyway?

Despite their name, bath bombs do not explode in the tub. Instead, they gradually fizz away when placed in warm bath water. This reaction is due to citric acid and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) encountering water, H2O. As the bath bomb "detonates," it releases its fragrance, essential oils, herbs, and more into the bath water.

Customizing your bath bombs is easy with options like essential oils, herbs, flowers, skin oils and butters, colorants, and even fun bath toys. Some bath bombs and fizzies may include Epsom salt or Himalayan sea salt to pamper the skin and muscles. In our recipe, powdery ingredients bind together with coconut oil, which also helps to nourish and pamper the skin. You may choose to add natural or artificial colorants for an extra dimension to the bath bomb fizz, though this is optional.

Pro tip: Himalayan sea salt can naturally add a soft pink color to your bath bombs. Rose petals, lavender buds, cornflower (bachelor’s button), and calendula are also effective for adding color and texture to your bath bombs and bath.

Where do I get all the materials for a bath bomb?

You can get all the ingredients you need right here at BubbForest (see links below too), or at your local grocery or health food store.

You can find bath bomb molds on Amazon, Etsy or other stores that sell soapmaking supplies. Some will have a section specifically for bath bombs or bath fizzies, while others will group them with soap molds. Soap molds are suitable for bath bombs, allowing you to experiment with various shapes and sizes to create the perfect DIY bath bombs. Popular shapes like heart, butterfly, apple, and star molds are excellent for making bath bomb gifts for teachers, birthday parties, and more.

How do you make homemade bath bombs?

We’ve updated our recipe to help you create crumble-free bath bombs. If you’re a fan of the old BubbForest bath bomb recipe, scroll down to the end of the post where you will find it.

How to Make Bath Bombs: a DIY Recipe

2 cups baking soda

1 cup citric acid

4 teaspoons coconut oil (melted)

¼ ounce fragrance or essential oil (optional)**

2-3 drops food coloring or natural colorant (optional)

witch hazel in a spray bottle

Bath Bomb Tools:

Bath bomb molds

Large bowl & small bowl

Whisk

Bath Bomb Steps:

Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Or, wrap it in festive paper for gifting. Store in a cool, dry place.

Simple, right? And so much fun!

The Best Bath Bomb Recipe Variations

Now for the really fun stuff. Bath bombs can be made into a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. The following are a few suggestions for inspiration.

Use More than One Color

Separate your bath bomb mixture into as many bowls as you want colors. Follow the rest of the recipe as directed. We love using matcha green tea, turmeric, activated charcoal, or Himalayan sea salt to add natural color to our bath bomb recipes.

Abstract — Randomly pack your bath bomb mold with different colors for a wild and fun look.

Stripes — Take turns packing your mixture with 2 or more colors for a stripe effect.

The Planet — This one’s a lot of fun to watch as the bath bomb fizzes away in the bath. It is also a little tricky to make since it’s built with an outside-in approach, meaning you’ll work from the edges inward. Start by thickly and evenly lining the edge of a round bath bomb mold with one color so it leaves a little hole in the middle. Then fill in the inside with another color for a “core.” Follow the rest of the recipe as directed.

The Natural — Pamper skin with antioxidant turmeric and activated charcoal. Divide the mixture into 2 bowls. Use 1 teaspoon of turmeric to color half of the mixture and 1 teaspoon activated charcoal (break open capsules and pour powder into the mixture) to color the other half of the bath bomb mixture. Pack into molds in alternating layers. Follow the rest of the recipe as directed.

The Rose — Use a circle, rose, or heart bath bomb mold. Add ½ cup of Himalayan sea salt to the basic DIY bath bomb mixture. For fragrance, use rose hip seed oil or essential oil rose absolute (¼ ounce). Before pressing the mixture into molds, place a few rose petals in the bottom of the molds (this will result in rose petals appearing on the top of the bath bomb once it’s out of the mold). These make the perfect DIY bath bomb gifts for teachers, friends, Valentine’s Day, or Sweetest Day. Follow the rest of the recipe as directed.

Winter Wonderland — Use a snowflake mold. Add ½ cup of Celtic Sea Salt Light Grey Coarse (or Celtic Sea Salt Fine Ground) and 2 tablespoons cornflower petals to the basic DIY bath bomb recipe. For essential oils fragrance, add seasonal favorites like sage or rosemary. Follow the rest of the recipe as directed.

Water Garden — Use a circle bath bomb mold. In a small bowl, mix together the following dried flowers: 1 teaspoon of cornflowers, 1 teaspoon of rose petals, 1 teaspoon of lavender buds, and 1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers. Sprinkle mixed flower petals and buds into the bottom of the mold—about ½-1 teaspoon per mold. Add rose hip seed oil or lavender essential oil to the basic DIY bath bomb recipe as your fragrance. Follow the rest of the recipe as directed.

Vary Shape & Size

While round is the most common bath bomb shape, don't limit yourself. Explore websites that sell bath bomb materials to find a variety of molds including flowers, hearts, snowflakes and even cupcakes!

Add Non-Fizzy Ingredients

Integrating flower petals into your bath bomb recipe not only won't affect the consistency but also will create a stunning visual in the bath. However, ensure the petals do not go down the drain and clog your pipes after use.

You can also enhance the recipe with additional ingredients to pamper your skin and boost your glow, such as chamomile (use whole flowers for a more botanical look or ground flowers in BubbForest Chamomile capsules), oatmeal, and green tea leaves or green matcha tea powder for an extra therapeutic effect. For a fun surprise for kids, insert a small waterproof toy inside a bath bomb.

How to Make Bath Bombs Without Citric Acid

Bath bombs made without citric acid won't fizz as much, but this recipe will still be popular, especially among those with sensitive skin or those seeking kid-friendly options.

1 cup baking soda

½ cup cornstarch

½ cup Epsom salts

4 tablespoons cream of tartar

4 teaspoons coconut oil (melted)

¼ ounce fragrance or essential oil (optional)**

2-3 drops food coloring or natural colorant (optional)

witch hazel in a spray bottle

Follow the steps listed for the basic DIY Bath Bomb Recipe above.

BubbForest DIY Bath Bombs Recipe

Bath Bomb Ingredients:

½ cup baking soda

¼ cup cornstarch

¼ cup citric acid

3-4 teaspoons coconut oil

1-2 teaspoons water

1 teaspoon essential oil

few drops food coloring (optional)

Bath Bomb Steps:

Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl. Stir together with a whisk.

Add coconut oil, essential oil, and food coloring (if using). Stir until ingredients are thoroughly combined.

When adding water, do so slowly and only as much as needed because the mixture will fizz upon exposure to water. Stir vigorously to reduce fizzing while adding water.

When the mixture is wet enough to stick together in clumps, press the mixture firmly into molds until the molds are filled. If using a mold with 2 pieces, such as a round mold, squish the pieces together and remove any excess from the sides.

Let the mixture sit in the molds for five minutes, then carefully remove the bath bombs from the molds.

Lay the bath bombs on parchment paper or a towel and let them dry for 24 hours.

Recipe makes enough for 2 round 2.5 inch diameter bath bombs.

The possibilities for creating your own bath bomb are limited only by your imagination. You probably already have some in your kitchen cupboards or medicine cabinet, as common carrier oils are often found there.

What Are Carrier Oils?

Carrier oils are used to dilute essential oils for topical application. The term “carrier oil” refers to their purpose of “carrying” the essential oils safely to your skin.

Why Do I Need Carrier Oils for Essential Oils?

Essential oils are distilled from the leaves, bark, roots, or flowers of plants and are highly concentrated.

If you’ve already started using essential oils, you know that a few drops go a long way! Due to their high concentration, essential oils may cause irritation or adverse reactions if applied directly to the skin.

Using carrier oils to dilute essential oils before application helps to prevent these problems.

Additionally, carrier oils each have their own potential benefits for your skin, so the combination of essential oil and carrier oil provides both aromatherapy benefits and skincare advantages.

Choosing The Best Carrier Oils

When selecting carrier oils, always opt for pure, cold-pressed, unrefined oils with no additives.

Cold-pressed oils are processed without heat, helping them retain their natural properties.

Unrefined oils undergo minimal processing, preserving their richness and potency.

High Oleic vs. High Linoleic

Woah there, what are those terms?

Before delving into specific carrier oils, let’s understand a basic categorization. All oils consist of fatty acids, with some being higher in oleic acid (omega-9) and others in linoleic acid (omega-6).

The fatty acid profile of carrier oils influences their effects on your skin or hair.

Oils high in oleic acid tend to be heavy. They provide deep moisturization and are suitable for dry skin.

Oils high in linoleic acid are lighter and moisturize without penetrating as deeply.

However, individual results can vary. If you have very dry skin and coconut oil isn’t effective, it doesn’t mean that all high oleic oils won’t suit you. Experiment to discover which oil or blend works best for your skin.

The Best Carrier Oils & Their Benefits

High Oleic Carrier Oils

Coconut Oil

Yes, coconut oil has uses outside of the kitchen! It has become very popular as a skin moisturizer and soother. The medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) in coconut oil are nourishing for the skin. However, this oil is fairly thick and can leave a greasy residue just after application. It also solidifies below 76 degrees, making it harder to use in cooler months. To overcome this, you can whip the coconut oil or blend it with other oils.

Sweet Almond Oil

This carrier oil is rich in fatty acids, vitamins E and K, and heart-healthy phytosterols. Sweet almond oil is a potent moisturizer—just a few drops are effective. Additionally, this carrier oil won’t clog pores and absorbs easily to nourish and revive the skin. Sweet almond oil is especially effective around the eyes and can be used as a massage oil or moisturizer in homemade lotions, creams, hair treatments, and more. It’s an excellent all-purpose carrier oil and can be used alone or blended with thicker oils.

Jojoba Oil

You’re probably beginning to notice a trend… jojoba oil is full of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamin E, and sterols. It helps regulate skin cell hydration for normal, oily, dry, or combination skin types. It’s non-greasy, as jojoba oil closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum. Like other carrier oils, jojoba oil can be used in homemade lotions, creams, and hair treatments.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olive oil is a popular carrier oil because it’s readily available (you likely have a bottle in your pantry). Olive oil, increasingly used in skincare and beauty products, is full of essential fatty acids that moisturize and soften skin. It is best when mixed with a lighter carrier oil, as it is very thick and may leave excess oil on the skin if used alone.

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. This thick oil is ideal for deep moisturization, providing extra nourishment for the skin and hair with its vitamins and minerals. While it works well on its own, blending it with a lighter oil like sweet almond oil can improve its texture.

Argan Oil

A little goes a long way with argan oil. This oil, known for its anti-aging benefits, helps reduce the visibility of fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks. Argan oil contains vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and polyphenols. It is very hydrating, absorbs quickly, and can be used on skin or hair. A few drops in your carrier oil blend are sufficient to harness its benefits.

Macadamia Nut Oil

Macadamia nut oil is rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids. One of the highest sources of palmitoleic acid (omega-7), which naturally occurs in younger skin but decreases with age, it helps maintain smooth skin. As a popular anti-aging aid, macadamia nut oil is another thick oil, yet its moisturizing benefits penetrate deeply without leaving a greasy residue.

Cocoa Butter

Okay, technically not an oil, but cocoa butter serves as a carrier oil for essential oils. It is intensely moisturizing and popular for soothing even the most sensitive skin types. However, it may clog pores on your face.

Shea Butter/Shea Nut Oil

Shea butter and shea nut oil are high in vitamins A and E, which help repair and strengthen skin. Shea is non-comedogenic and won’t clog pores.

Emu Oil

Emu oil is a natural source of omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids. It is an easily absorbable, nutrient-rich oil obtained from the emu bird. This oil is an excellent moisturizer and skin softener. It isn’t as thick as olive oil or avocado oil, so it feels lighter on the skin.

Apricot Kernel Oil
This oil is packed with fatty acids, vitamins A and E, and antioxidants. Apricot kernel oil is an excellent emollient for even the most sensitive skin. It absorbs well into the skin and hair, known to revitalize, moisturize, and protect without leaving a greasy residue.

High Linoleic Carrier Oils

Sesame Seed Oil
Sesame seed oil is a fairly balanced oil—it has comparable amounts of oleic and linoleic acids. It also boasts a rich array of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that support skin and hair health. For skin, sesame seed oil acts as a protectant and promotes a smooth, youthful glow. For hair, it nourishes and strengthens, providing maximum volume and shine.
Rosehip Seed Oil
Naturally high in vitamins A and E, rosehip seed oil is a lighter oil that delivers a strong antioxidant boost. It’s often used to enhance skin health.
Grape Seed Oil
This oil is very popular as a carrier oil for essential oils. It’s loaded with essential fatty acids including linoleic, oleic, stearic, palmitic, myristic, and lauric. Grape seed oil has a rich and silky texture that is perfect for soothing dryness without clogging pores or causing breakouts. Since it’s light, it can also be used as a conditioner.
Evening Primrose Oil
Like other high linoleic oils, evening primrose oil has a lighter texture. It’s typically used to promote a healthy complexion and youthful glow. This oil also contains gamma-linolenic acid, which is particularly beneficial for nourishing and protecting healthy skin cells.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is an exception to the rule that oils high in linoleic acid have a lighter viscosity. Castor oil is heavy with a neutral to nutty aroma. Like sesame seed oil, castor oil is relatively balanced between oleic and linoleic acids. Additionally, it’s a source of vitamin E and palmitic acid. Castor oil is an excellent emollient, popular for supporting soft and healthy skin and hair, and can be used to create a “glossy” look on the lips.

Hopefully, this list of the best carrier oils for essential oils gives you a good idea of how different carrier oils can affect your skin differently.

You’ll notice that almost all of them are rich sources of essential fatty acids. Well, that makes sense—they’re oils! And those fatty acids make them all excellent moisturizers.

Think about it... would we use them as carrier oils and skincare oils if they sucked all the moisture out of the skin instead of adding it? Probably not.

Because their benefits are so similar, it might seem like it doesn’t matter which oil(s) you pick. However, many people find that one or two specific oils work best for their skin or hair, so if one doesn’t work for you, just try another.

Tell us below: which carrier oils are your favorites?

<drupal-render-placeholder callback="comment.lazy_builders:renderForm" arguments="0=node&1=173240&2=comment&3=comment" token="OpPRYScoAmvuL53wT9BgRlBn04kleVMfzGKl-dDQ_Wc"></drupal-render-placeholder>

Standard
Thu, 22 Jan 2026 16:02:33 +0000 Anonymous 173240 at http://bubbforest.net http://bubbforest.net/en/blog/essential-oils-beauty-tip-choose-right-carrier-oil-479#comments 7 Endless Summer Beauty Tips http://bubbforest.net/en/blog/7-endless-summer-beauty-tips-478 7 Endless Summer Beauty Tips Anonymous (not verified) <time datetime="2026-01-21T21:17:29+00:00" title="Wednesday, January 21, 2026 - However, the season also presents challenges in maintaining your best look and feel amidst the heat.

Stir together with a whisk.

Combine coconut oil and essential oil in a small bowl. Add food coloring (if using) and stir to combine. Pour mixture into the large bowl. Stir until the ingredients are thoroughly combined and there are no clumps in the mixture. Add any flowers, herbs, or other custom ingredients at this time.

Spritz in witch hazel, using just enough to hold the mixture together and slightly dampen it. Stir gently to prevent the mixture from fizzing up. The mixture should resemble a dry, or slightly crumbly pie crust or wet sand and hold its shape when compacted or squeezed between your fingers and palm.

Working quickly, transfer the mixture to the bath bomb mold, pressing it firmly into the molds. If using a mold with 2 pieces, such as a round mold, pack each piece tightly with the mixture and then squish the pieces together, removing any excess from the sides. Pro tip: If you are adding any herbs or flowers to the top of the bath bomb, place a few petals or leaves in the bottom of the bath bomb mold before adding the mixture.

Let the mixture sit in the molds for about five minutes. Follow any molding and unmolding instructions as directed for specific molds. Some molds may require several hours or overnight to allow the mixture to harden. Carefully remove bath bombs from the molds.

Lay bath bombs on parchment paper or a towel and let them dry for 24 hours.

Recipe makes enough for 3 round, 2½-inch diameter bath bombs.

To Use: Drop a bath bomb into a warm bath and enjoy.

<drupal-render-placeholder callback="comment.lazy_builders:renderForm" arguments="0=node&1=172879&2=comment&3=comment" token="TSZTE-kl0vRSRU671Pnd0OV0Kz6KBPg8xQF9PcW9RWk"></drupal-render-placeholder>

Standard
Wed, 21 Jan 2026 21:17:29 +0000 Anonymous 172879 at http://bubbforest.net http://bubbforest.net/en/blog/essential-oils-beauty-tip-choose-right-carrier-oil-478#comments 7 Endless Summer Beauty Tips http://bubbforest.net/en/blog/7-endless-summer-beauty-tips-477 7 Endless Summer Beauty Tips Anonymous (not verified) <time datetime="2026-01-20T23:47:15+00:00" title="Tuesday, January 20, 2026 - However, the season also presents challenges in maintaining your best look and feel amidst the heat.

<drupal-render-placeholder callback="comment.lazy_builders:renderForm" arguments="0=node&1=172518&2=comment&3=comment" token="dlctwku2hVT76t9Ha5uaIE1NBC0TnvV0YRzUAmH-vEE"></drupal-render-placeholder>

Standard
Tue, 20 Jan 2026 23:47:15 +0000 Anonymous 172518 at http://bubbforest.net http://bubbforest.net/en/blog/essential-oils-beauty-tip-choose-right-carrier-oil-477#comments 7 Endless Summer Beauty Tips http://bubbforest.net/en/blog/7-endless-summer-beauty-tips-476 7 Endless Summer Beauty Tips Anonymous (not verified) <time datetime="2026-01-20T08:47:10+00:00" title="Tuesday, January 20, 2026 - However, the season also presents challenges in maintaining your best look and feel amidst the heat.
